Giordania: confiscate 8000 audiocassette pirata

La Jordan National Library ha condotto una delle più grosse operazioni antipirateria in Giordania domenica scorsa, presso un appartamento della parte ovest della capitale Amman.
L’appartamento era stato trasformato in una piccola fabbrica per la realizzazione di audiocassette pirata. La polizia ha confiscato 8.000 cassette, 10.000 copertine e otto apparecchi di riproduzione.
L’art. 36 della legge sul copyright giordana statuisce: “A) Employees of the Copyrights Protection Office in the National Library Department who are delegated by the Minister shall be considered members of the Judicial Police during their implementation of the provisions of this Law. B) Shall there be any suspicion of a violation of the provisions of this Law being committed in any business which prints, reproduces or distributes works, then the employees of the Copyrights Protection Office shall have the right to search this business and impound the copies and collect and refer the materials used in committing these violations along with the violators to Court. The Minister may request the Court to close the business.”
I membri del Copyright Protection officers hanno lo status di polizia giudiziaria, possono condurre ispezioni, cercare indizi, confiscare il materiale piratato, e portare davanti i giudici gli imputati.
La Jordan National Library ha trattato circa 1.400 casi negli ultimi cinque anni, con una media di 30 casi al mese, ovvero un caso ogni 24 ore. “Facciamo molti straordinari e lavoriamo anche durante il weekend”, ha affermato il direttore della Library.
Il materiale sequestrato riguarda diversi album di famosi artisti arabi, come il cantante arabo Um Kolthoum, il cantante libanese George Wasouf e Nancy Ajram, oltre altri.
L’art. 51 della legge giordana prevede la carcerazione non inferiore a tre mesi e non superiore a tre anni, oltre a una multa tra i 1.000 e i 6.000 dinari. La pena si applica anche a chi offre in vendita, fa circolare o noleggia il materiale piratato.
